Doggie bump:
Besides local/city governments finally closing bars and restaurants, it seems some of the state is on board with the social distancing. Too bad it only took a few death threats ( which still isn’t cool) and bad name calling to force a decision from Broken Arrow and Owasso.
But some of the smaller, more rural areas probably aren’t gonna follow. For example, my HPDE is still scheduled to go forward Wednesday. There will be about 25 people total, drivers and workers, spread across Hallet Motor Circuit.
Theres plenty of space to practice “social distancing” and the tower will be closed along with the cafeteria. Which is understandable. Bring your own gear, food, water and keep your distance.
As far as how I feel, I don’t know. If there’s one activity you can do with very little human contact, a track would be it. Definitely don’t think there will be instructors this time.
Definitely sucks I won't get a chance to get a closer look at some of the cars, but better to keep distance.

I’m headed to the track tomorrow (Eagles Canyon Raceway) in Decatur, TX. It’s the track’s open track day (their version of a HPDE). Most of the independent groups cancelled, but the track is open and they’ve announced special hours for “adult daycare” for members. The clubhouse has been rearranged and the grill is closed, so social distancing should be easy enough. I’m not sure if they are doing instructors or not, I’m usually in charge of the classroom and I’m still planning on doing that just with people a little more spread out than usual.

I'd be interested in seeing what they're gonna do. Of even how many don't have a place to go. But as long as they don't go to the strip, I think it can help flatten the curve.

Yeah. I'm thinking keeping space won't be an issues. Being aware will do a lot of good.

Norman and OKC are fairly shut down. Norman more so. Unfortunately I work for USPS at a processing facility
with no possible chance of working from home or shutting down pretty much at all. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Did you hear about the new track they’re going to build around the Salina Highbanks Speedway?

Halliburton? We lived in Duncan for 3 years. My wife’s first job was with Schlumberger, and I was finishing school in Lawton.

I saw that! I couldn’t make it to the open house, but I am very interested. I hope they can get the funding and do non member days. If they can do that, I would definitely scrounge together a yearly fee to run on that track. High hopes they can pull it off.

Same. It’s very early stages, all around, and the track layout has a long way to go, and there’s a ton of clearing and dirt work that will need to be done, but it seems like there are enough excited about it in the area (with money) to actually make it happen. Hopefully it’s a Harris Hill (family friendly and not prohibitively expensive
) vibe.

Cool, I still haven’t managed to make it up to Hallett (there’s always a schedule conflict). I’ll be at the track the next couple weekends, making up for lost time.
